Comanche’s Lake Epperson – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Coaches Corner

By Hannah Ossman

Lake Epperson, a senior at Comanche High School, is a strong member of the wrestling team.

Lake has been involved in wrestling for as long as he can remember and is still involved all the way into his senior year of high school. His dad is the one who got him interested in wrestling to begin with, and he has stuck with it ever since. Having a family connection to a sport can be so special, and makes it just that much more special to the athlete.

For him, the best part about wrestling and why he loves it so much is the competitiveness of the sport. He also enjoys the fact that it is a solo sport, and that you don’t have to rely on other members of a team. It is all on him as an individual to do well.

Lake’s teammates are extremely important to him, and he enjoys the time they get to spend together during practices and matches. His teammates are like his brothers, and they’ve all grown up together. They mean the world to him, and he is always there for them and would do anything for every single one of them.

He has always looked up to the wrestlers that were older than him as he was growing up. Watching them compete and win made him want to grow up to be as good as they were. They are his main role models.

Some of Lake’s favorite memories with his team include winning state, as well as placing during state his sophomore and junior wrestling seasons. They were 2020 dual state and state champions.

During this next season, Lake hopes to become a college All American wrestler.

After high school graduation, Lake plans to attend college and pursue a degree in business. He also has a goal set for himself to wrestle throughout college.
