Clinton’s Kenzie Naranjo - Athlete Spotlight Presented By K&S Tire, Inc
Success is something that we all strive to achieve in our lives. There is a certain amount of work that is required in order to get there. Athletes are no different, looking to become the best they can be in their sport or sports. Kenzie Naranjo says that focus is one of the keys in her sport.
“There are a few things that you have to do in order to be a successful softball player,” she said. “You have to have a lot of dedication and also just the ability to go out on the field and forget everything else that is going on.”
Naranjo is a junior at Clinton High School. She plays left field for the Lady Reds softball team. She began playing in little league and says that one thing she enjoys about softball is that it allows her to clear her head and have fun. “I’ve just always enjoyed softball because it has always been an escape place for me,” she said. “It’s as if when I’m playing all the problems in my life seem smaller.”
There have been a lot of memories that Kenzie has made throughout her years on the diamond, but she says that one moment is her favorite. “The biggest highlight of my career came during our slowpitch softball season,” she said. “We were playing against Hydro and I hit two home runs. It was really great.”
Her brother, Kevin Naranjo, is the person that Kenzie looks up to as her biggest role model because he has helped her learn how to keep working. “When we were growing up, he was the one person who always taught me to keep going, no matter what was happening.”
The teachers that she has had at Clinton have all been good, but for Kenzie, one stands out as her favorite. “Mrs. Granger is the best,” she stated. “She has helped me see a different side of learning and she always pushes me to do more.”
