Weatherford’s Brooke Barker – Character Counts Presented by Eagle Realty
Brooke Barker is entering her final year at Weatherford High School and her final season as a volleyball player for the Lady Eagles. Barker started playing the sport when she was in the eighth grade.
“I’ve been playing since I was in eighth grade so about five years,” said Barker. “I play DS, or defensive specialist.”
Barker and her teammates have built a strong bond on and off the court. Barker says that while they take a serious approach to the technical aspects of the game, they don’t neglect the mental approach to competing.
“I love how we come together to play as one. In volleyball, or really any sport, one person’s mindset can completely ruin the overall mood in a game and our team has a great mentality,” said Barker. “We have the bar set high this year and I think it’ll be a great year. I’m really excited to get to bond with them and watch as we get into season and improve our technique and learn to trust each other. In Weatherford we have pretty high standards and we’re focused on making every year better than the last.”
Being a person of sound character, Barker recently got involved with a new program at school called Leadership Lab.
“We recently started a program called Leadership Lab and our goal is to make Weatherford a safer place for our underclassmen. We’re also learning to be better leaders in our school,” said Barker.
Barker said she has a lot of people to thank for helping her get this far.
“I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunities I’ve had, and I would really like to thank my parents for pushing me to strive for success as well as teaching me to be humble and kind to others. But of course I have to thank all of my past coaches, teammates, and friends for teaching me valuable lessons that I can apply on and off of the court!”
