Weatherford’s Brooke Barker – Character Counts Presented by BancFirst Weatherford

Brooke Barker is a volleyball player for the Weatherford Lady Eagles. In her senior season Barker started as a defensive specialist and felt like she had a good season. “At the beginning of the season I really feel like I picked it up,” said Barker, “I really started reading hitters more so I think I had a good season.”
As a senior Barker also took on a leadership role for Weatherford. “I mainly try to hold our underclassmen accountable, if I see we aren’t doing our best I try to pick everybody up and just keep the energy up. I don’t want anybody getting down on themselves,” said Barker.
In that leadership role and throughout the season Barker showed true character. “Character, to me, is how someone handles situations or treats other people,” said Barker, “It’s something you don’t just randomly have, it’s something that’s built over time through different experiences.”
Outside of volleyball Barker is currently in the cosmetology program at Western Tech Center. When she was in FFA in 2019 she won a State Championship for Milk Quality and Products.
After graduation Barker plans on attending college to study physical therapy or athletic training. She is currently looking at College of the Ozarks and SWOSU. “I really love sports of any kind so I would just like to be involved with them in the future and help athletes with any physical issues they might have,” said Barker.
