Weatherford’s Abbie Moses – Character Counts Presented by Eagle Realty
By Derrick Smith
Abbie Moses is a senior at Weatherford High School. She plays softball and basketball for the Lady Eagles. While she loves playing sports, she is also an active member of groups around the school. “I am the Vice President of the National Honor Society, President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and President of the Spanish Club. I am also a member of the Student Council, Key Club, and Weatherford’s Leadership Lab.”
Moses enjoys being involved and helping others whenever she can. She volunteers as a mentor for middle school girls in her youth group at Weatherford First Baptist Church. She also goes to the elementary school once a week as an Early Bird Reader and reads with a first grader. Abbie also donates her time at Weatherford’s Food and Resource Center, where she enjoys helping people shop for food.
Rick Morris, Abbie’s softball coach at Weatherford, says that while she is a great athlete and teammate, she is an even better person off the field. “Abbie definitely has a servant’s heart,” he said. “She serves in leadership roles in groups around campus and participates in others. She has also been a co-leader of a discipleship group at her local church.”
No doubt that this year has been different, but that did not stop Moses from finding ways to help her community. This summer, she spent almost every Thursday morning assisting others in the community hand out boxes of food through the Feeding Families project. During the pandemic, she spent several mornings and early afternoons helping prepare and hand out breakfast and lunch meals to school-age kids.
Abbie’s mom, Krystal Moses, says that she is proud of her daughter and what she has become. “Abbie continually surprises us with her ability to balance her extracurricular activities, her services, and her academics,” she said. “She is a 4.0 honor student who is taking two college classes, one online class, and three high school honor classes. She’s a three-sport athlete and is involved in numerous clubs and organizations. Until recently, Abbie was also involved in the 3T basketball organization where she played on a traveling basketball team.”
